Azerbaijan once again hosted a major international event on June 5 – World Environment Day. On this occasion, a series of open-air events held at the Heydar Aliyev Center showcased various initiatives aimed at environmental protection, promoting a culture of recycling, and strengthening social responsibility. Among these initiatives were the social-environmental projects “Card to Art” and “Bring Paper – Take a Book”, implemented on the initiative of Təmiz Şəhər JSC with the support of a number of public and private partners, including Global Media Group and Global Management.
The “Bring Paper – Take a Book” social-environmental project focuses primarily on fostering recycling habits among schoolchildren. Launched at the Baku European Lyceum on March 18, Global Recycling Day, the project encourages students to bring unused paper collected at home and exchange it for new books. The initiative aims to strengthen environmental responsibility among the younger generation, promote reading habits, and contribute to the recycling of paper waste.
As part of the event, an exhibition of artworks made from expired plastic cards collected over the past year in special collection boxes was presented at the stand of the DOST Inclusive Development and Creativity Center. The “Card to Art” social-environmental project demonstrated that waste is not merely a material to be discarded but a resource that can gain new value through creativity and art. Handcrafted works created by persons with disabilities attracted significant interest from visitors, providing additional opportunities for social inclusion and showcasing their creative potential.
Both projects embody important values such as environmental responsibility, efficient use of resources, and social solidarity. Through these initiatives, efforts are made both to reduce the negative impact of waste on the environment and to engage different segments of society in meaningful and creative activities.
It should be noted that the “Bring Paper – Take a Book” and “Card to Art” social-environmental projects have been implemented with the support of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, Global Management, Global Media Group, DOST Inclusive Development and Creativity Center, Yapı Kredi Bank Azerbaijan, Facility Management Group, Araz Supermarkets, EcoHub, the Azerbaijan Publishers Association, Bravo Supermarket, Smart Waste MMC, Chapar Poliqrafiya, Gilavar Photo Club, and the Azerbaijan Journalists Network Public Union.
